AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?
Breast augmentation can enhance the size of your breasts and improve your proportions. Indicators for this procedure are small or asymmetrical breasts, breasts that have lost their shape due to aging, weight loss, childbearing, and breastfeeding, or breast reconstruction following a mastectomy.
HOW DOES THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE WORK?
There are several decisions that you must make before proceeding with breast augmentation surgery:
Where will the incision be to place the breast implants – the areola, the armpit or under the breast?
Where will the breast implant be placed? There are two generally accepted positions for implant placement – above or below the pectoral muscle.
Will you use silicone or saline implants?
What size do you want your breasts to be? This decision should be made very carefully with the guidance of your surgeon.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF BREAST AUGMENTATION?
Some discoloration and swelling result from breast surgery, but will disappear quickly. Most residual swelling resolves within a month. After surgery, you will be able to return to work within 3-7 days.
Some potential complications of breast augmentation include infection, reactions to anaesthesia and blood accumulation that may need to be drained surgically. Some breast surgery patients experience temporary changes in nipple or breast sensation.
While the results of breast augmentation are instantaneous, you will not see final results for six months to a year, or once the breast implants have settled into place and your skin and muscles have relaxed.
