Skin Care Injectables: BOTOX®, Dysport, and Dermal Fillers

The Meadowlark Surgical Centre & Cosmetic Clinic offers skin care injectables at our Edmonton facility, including BOTOX®, Dysport, and a variety of dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers are procedures that add volume to the face or lips.

SCULPTRA®

We offer SCULPTRA®, a non-invasive collagen boosting facial injectable, that delivers gradual, natural-looking results lasting up to two years. Improvements in skin texture, glowing tone, smooth texture and youthful skin appear gradually over time, with an average of 3 treatments, spaced 4-6weeks apart.

SCULPTRA® stimulates the body’s natural collagen production within the deep layers of the dermis, instead of superficially, resulting in progressively more beautiful and youthful looking skin, increased resiliency, more elasticity, and refined shape. Sculptra Aesthetics® restores facial volume and naturally decreases fine lines and wrinkles while revitalizing collagen production and restoring your skin’s inner structure and volume.

Following each treatment, and gradually over time, the stimulated collagen strands restore facial volume.

In a clinical study, some patients still showed improvement in the appearance of wrinkles for up to 2 years following their last treatment.

RADIESSE®

We offer RADIESSE®, a non-invasive dermal filler that is used to smooth the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles, and restore volume loss in the back of the hands.

Common areas of treatment include smile lines, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, pre-jowl folds, and chin wrinkles.

Following injection of the first Health Canada approved CaHA portfolio, the particles integrate into the skin, and collagen fibres form, which creates strength and support, and stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin, both responsible for strength and elasticity in the skin.

The results are immediate contouring, natural looking, long term improvements, which last a year or more in some patients.

BELKYRA™

BELKYRA™  (Kybella) is a minimally invasive injectable treatment for the reduction of excess subcutaneous fat under the chin area (double chin).

The active ingredient in Belkyra is deoxycholic acid, which targets and eliminates fat cells.

Many patients have visible improvements in 2-4 treatments, h,owever, depending on desired results, additional treatments may be needed.

Once desired results are achieved, then re-treatment is not necessarily expected.

Downtime is minimal with mild to moderate discomfort and this decreases with each treatment.

PROCEDURE: INJECTABLES/DERMAL FILLERS

In childhood, our skin is plump because it is full of hyaluronic acid, which fills the space between the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, and holds water to maintain the skin’s volume. As we age, the level of natural hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases, resulting in lines, furrows and wrinkles. Dermal fillers fill depressions in the skin that appear as we age, softening or eliminating wrinkles and folds, improving lip volume and definition, and producing skin that looks and feels hydrated.

HOW DOES THE PROCEDURE WORK?

Dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin using a fine needle. Local anaesthetic or topical anaesthetic will be administered prior to treatment to ensure your comfort. The procedure is quick and convenient with instantaneous results.

The effects of skin care injectables are temporary, lasting from six months to a year depending on the individual. During this time, however, the dermal filler treatment softens wrinkles and folds, such as nasal labial folds (smile lines), marionette lines (lines from mouth to chin) and frown lines, and helps provide cheek augmentation and lip definition and volume.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR INJECTABLE DERMAL FILLERS?

The formation of wrinkles and the loss of skin volume are an inevitable part of aging. If you are interested in reducing your facial wrinkles or “plumping” the appearance of your cheeks and lips, you may be a good candidate for dermal filler treatments.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF DERMAL FILLERS?

Most side effects resulting from dermal fillers are mild and last only a few days to a week. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the human body, allergic reactions are rare to occur. Side effects may include redness, tenderness, firmness, swelling, bruising or lumps.

Patients can resume normal activities almost immediately following treatment, so you will not need to plan for an extended recovery period.
