Microneedling in Edmonton

Collagen is a natural protein. It is a major component of the extracellular matrix in the dermal layer of our skin. It holds things together. It keeps skin elastic and toned. As we age there is a decrease in the body's production of collagen.

Dr. Warren Roberts of PTIFA states that by the age of 35 years, one has lost 50% of their collagen.

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive procedure where tiny needles create micro injuries in the skin. As a result the body is stimulated  to increase its production of collagen and elastin. The presence of the channels also permit a deep delivery of topical serums into the dermal layer giving the skin a more youthful, radiant glow. PRP is a type of CIT where one's own Platelet Rich Plasma is applied to the microneedled channels. The client's own blood is drawn, centrifuged and platelet rich portion applied. These platelets have a large capacity for self renewal, causing  the proliferation of various cells responsible for the production of collagen.

To see the optimum benefit, it is advised that there be three to four treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, with the full benefit seen at 6 months.

This therapy improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone and texture, reducing pore size and minimizing scars. There are minimal side effects but one must be aware that everyone's skin is unique. There will be some redness and dryness following, with downtimes being dependent on skin type and depth of microneedling.

Microneedling and PRP are procedures that stimulate your own body to rejuvenate itself.
